Girl Scouts Invited to Camp-In at Catawba Science Center

Catawba Science Center (CSC) invites area Girl Scout Brownies to spend the night stargazing in Millholland Planetarium and exploring science through hands-on activities March 16-17.

Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to meet creatures that live behind the scenes, explore the saltwater and freshwater aquarium galleries and make crafts. The camp-in will include a rotation of four classes in the evening, one snack and breakfast.

The cost to register is $28 per Girl Scout and $5 for each accompanying adult. Registration forms are available at CSC and online at www.CatawbaScience.org.

Forms are due by March 9. Any registrations postmarked after the deadline will have a $5 late fee per Girl Scout. A minimum of 40 Girl Scouts need to register for CSC to hold the event.

Preschoolers ‘Discover Dinosaurs’ on Feb. 14

Discover dinosaurs big and small during Catawba Science Center’s (CSC) Preschool Science Program on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Examine fossils and learn the difference between a herbivore and a carnivore. Children will take home their own T-rex tooth from this engaging educational experience. More exciting play, crafts and demonstrations will follow the Dinosaur Discovery program.

On March 13, preschoolers will have the opportunity to learn about the Radical Rainforest from the type of food found to where animals live high and low. Students will bring home their own rainsticks and world tree from the adventure. Following on April 17, preschoolers will learn how to have Green Thumbs to make their own garden grow and will learn the life cycle of a sunflower. Lastly on May 17, preschoolers can discover the wonders behind butterflies by learning about their lifestyle and will create a colorful butterfly to take home.

Preschool Science Programs are open to children ages 3-5. Classes are held at CSC on Tuesdays from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Cost is $8 per child for CSC members and $15 per child for nonmembers. Accompanying adults are free.
